For those of you that are new here. Welcome to the party, pal.
The format I’m working on: one prediction at the top, the stories that earned their spot and the vision to close it out.
The Take
The most important tension of the week isn't a product launch. It's a question about who gets to decide how fast we go.
Apple's iPhone Duo went viral before it was officially announced, IShowSpeed did a backflip on launch day in front of millions as new CEO John Ternus stood right there.
Sam Altman and Elon Musk publicly agreed with Dario Amodei: we need to pace frontier AI and bring in independent evaluators with real access, not rubber-stamp auditors.
A fruit fly's biological neural circuitry was cloned and taught to play Doom, jam to Beat Saber and explore a magical fly paradise. Will a human brain be next?
721 GPT-6 Astra projects landed on Ottermind in days, a VR rhythm game shipped for $1.75 in model costs, and a $9 ad replaced an agency briefing. The tools are not slowing down while the safety conversation heats up.
My bet is that within 18 months, the AI safety debate produces at least one binding evaluation requirement in a major country. The labs that volunteered for independent oversight will use it as a competitive moat, not a constraint.
Below: what Meta's leaked Project Phoenix means for the spatial computing race, Tesla’s roadster might fly thanks for SpaceX jets while your AI agent is going on dates for you.

The Slowdown Debate Goes Mainstream (And OpenAI Agrees)
Sam Altman posted his agreement with Dario Amodei's call to pace frontier development and commit to independent evaluators with employee-like access.
Two of the most powerful labs in the world are now publicly aligned on slowing down, at least enough to let oversight catch up.
Anthropic’s threat intelligence team published a detailed report naming actual misuse cases of Claude: influence operations, cyber attacks, bioweapon research attempts.
All the while Trump and Jensen proclaim there will be no slowdown and it’s just for marketing purposes.
Watch whether the "independent evaluator with employee-like access" commitment becomes a concrete program or quietly dissolves into PR.
Co-inventor of ChatGPT Comes Out Of Stealth with New Groundbreaking AI
After spending 2 years in the shadows heads down building Diogo Almeida has finally revealed his next creation. He uses a novel approach to training that yields hard to believe results.
Claims include models that are 20-200x faster AND 40-400x cheaper with free output tokens. It almost sounds too good to be true.
This news broke earlier today. We’ll keep an eye on it to see if it lives up to the hype.
OpenAI's Platform Push: Agents, Voice, Finance, and Sites
OpenAI shipped more infrastructure this week than most companies ship in a quarter.
The Agents API with a Codex harness is framed by Greg Isenberg as the AWS moment for agents.
The hardest parts of the stack are now something you rent, not build. GPT-Live-1 is now available in the API, letting you build voice agents that listen and speak simultaneously without the awkward turn-taking that made voice feel like a gimmick.
ChatGPT for Financial Services bundles live financial data with GPT-6 Astra's reasoning for research, modeling, and client reporting.
Sites hit 5 million user-created web apps in three months, and OpenAI just added collaborative real-time editing. That number is not a vanity metric. It tells you the no-code building layer has genuine pull.
AI Collapses the Creative Pipeline: Ads and Car Configurators
A developer built a fully functional car configurator using GPT Image 2.5 and LTX video API with zero 3D models.
This is the work of studios done by individuals. The creative bottleneck is no longer skill or software access. It's knowing which tools to chain together, and that is a learnable skill. Start learning it now.

AI Agents Are Going on Dates, Making Calls, and Building Your Taste
Ditto has 185,000 college users sending AI agents on simulated dates to negotiate real-world meetups. Grok's voice mode called a user back unprompted to discuss grabbing coffee, and it sounded like a person.
These are not demos. They are the first wave of agents that initiate real-world contact without being asked. The friction between AI and human scheduling, matching, and outreach just collapsed to near zero.
My bet is within 12 months there will be multiple other examples of this agent-to-agent communication in sales, shopping and hotel reservations.
Free Local Photoshop Alternative: Photon Studio
Photon Studio is a fully offline, free alternative to Photoshop: no account, no cloud uploads, no Adobe terms of service. In an era where
Adobe keeps paywalling features and harvesting files for AI training, a local-first creative tool is a real escape hatch.
Try it before your next Adobe renewal conversation.
AI Tip of the Week: Try to Ship a VR Game in an Afternoon
Meta's Horizon Dev team documented a workflow that cuts VR prototyping from a weekend commitment to a few hours: use Muse Code as your AI coding agent and pair it with the Immersive Web SDK.
The example they shipped was a VR rhythm game at $1.75 in model costs.
Start by opening Muse Code, describing the simplest version of your VR concept in plain language, and letting the agent scaffold the IWSDK boilerplate.
Iterate from there. The goal for your first session is a working scene you can put a headset on, not a finished product.
Apple and Hardware
iPhone Duo: Apple's Foldable Era Arrives in the Most 2025 Way Possible
IShowSpeed met new Apple CEO John Ternus live on stream and took a selfie with him using the foldable iPhone in front of millions of viewers.
Pricing starts at $1,999 for 256GB, squarely in MacBook Pro territory.
The lock screen animation is already going viral as a case study in Apple's design obsession: small, unrequested, and immediately noticed.
Samsung spent years trying to make foldables feel inevitable. Apple may do it in one product cycle because of how it handles the details nobody asked for. If the Duo sells at $1,999, every Android flagship maker reprices their ceiling within 18 months.
This is all we know about the iPhone Duo so far, drawn from hands-on coverage and MacRumors' running roundup.
Biological Computing
Fly Brains Playing Doom and Beat Saber Are the Most Underrated Story of the Week
Two separate research groups trained a fly brain.
This is a direct evolution of the 2022 DishBrain experiment where human cortical neurons learned Pong.
The FlyWire project's completed connectome of the entire fruit fly brain, every neuron and every synapse mapped, raises a question that the AI safety conversation has not touched yet: if you run a complete neural map as software, is anyone home?
We are not ready to answer that, and the research is not waiting for us to get ready.
Keep this one on your radar. Biological computing is not a curiosity anymore. It's a third substrate competing with silicon and photonics, and it is moving fast.
Robotics
Tesla's Roadster Doesn’t Need Roads
Tesla's "go for launch" post means the Roadster is imminent. It’s been 7 years in the making but the rocket powered supercar is finally making its debut.
Do you think it will be able to fly? It does have “Where we’re going” hidden in the image. You know what that means..
Spatial Computing
Meta's Project Phoenix Leaks: A Slim Tethered Headset Is Coming
The first official visuals of Meta's Project Phoenix surfaced inside HorizonOS prescription lens firmware, as reported by UploadVR and confirmed by independent leaker Lunayian.
The design is slim with a tethered compute puck, a direct answer to Apple Vision Pro's approach and a signal that the industry still hasn't agreed on what comfortable all-day XR actually looks like.
Gaming
Nintendo and Blizzard Both Bet on What Already Worked
Super Smash Bros. Legends is officially coming in fall 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, which means the next two years are a Smash hype cycle. I might need to get a new Switch and a new PS5 (for GTA of course).
World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard's alternate-timeline vanilla WoW: level cap of 60, original world and era, but with 1,000-plus new quests and new zones layered on top. The honest read is that Blizzard's most commercially safe move in 2025 is rebuilding 2004.
The Vision
History is not kind to industry self-regulation in high-stakes technology races. The labs making these commitments are the same labs locked in a race where falling behind by a quarter has real consequences.
The convergence is not just two CEOs agreeing on a blog post. It is 120 million views on an AI safety post, a former OpenAI researcher on the most-listened-to podcast in the world, Congress being formally lobbied by the labs themselves for mandatory oversight, and Anthropic publishing the names and methods of people who tried to use their model to research bioweapons.
Out of left field comes the biological computing story is the one that sits completely outside every existing governance framework. Nobody in Washington is writing regulations for fly brain organoids interfacing with software. I have a feeling something has to go wrong in this arena for it to be noticed.
What the week actually showed is that the capability curve does not pause for the governance conversation. Altman and Amodei agree to slow down AI progress while a fly brain is playing Doom. Does that sound like real life?
A $1,999 foldable iPhone debuted on a livestream while Apple's new CEO stood next to one of the most-watched streamers on the planet. The old model of industry, regulator, and public moving in sequence is finished.
Everything is happening at once, and the people who will do well in this environment are the ones who can find the signal through the noise and build the right thing for the right people.
